In fact this has happened before many time and has happened since. There was an bad outcome in some and a good outcome in others. True it never happened before in this part of the world. That is my 2 cents worth. Bill, One of the rescuers from that day so long ago.

El Grande I do not understand the envy and obvious resentment you have for the young womans financial standing. Were you or someone close to you hurt as a result of the incident? Were you or someone close to you hurt in an unrelated incident? I applaud the folks who contributed to the Baby Jessica rescue! Your envy should in no way take away from the generous outpouring of caring people who were on the scene at the time or who contributed financially or otherwise. The money is a testament to those who selflessly give without resentment. Your attitude is bothersome especially in light of those HEROS who gave so much more than money could ever buy.

There are hundreds of thousands of children who have had something unfortunate happen to them. These children did not have the benefit of the media to thrust their plight onto millions of people. Does this particular person deserve to be wealthy the rest of her life due to this? Probably not. I read her interview, though, and it looks like she plans on using it toward her son, which is very noble of her.

Kids will be kids and it was not BABY JESSICA'S fault that she fell in the well, this was due to a lack of supervision on the the part of the parents. I remember those days very well. I lived in Odeessa and I wanted to go over to Midland after work and help out. The MOST memoryable MOMENTS to me was when she would SING or say NURSERY lines. She was truly so innocent and didn't know what was going on. My fear was that she would fall further down into the well and would die inside there due to lack of drinking water or milk. Something like this had NEVER happened before and so it got the ATTENTION of the whole United States and WORLD. Any incredible amount of manpower and equipment money was used in the rescuse. Now if she should be a millionare because of this incident, well I guess that is one of rewards that was dished out by faith and circumstances. That was probadly her good fortune or it was written in the stars.

I remember being angry that her parents allowed her to play around that old wellhead, and never bothered to have it plugged. The kid's a millionaire now, too. Go figure. One of those situations that we're not meant to understand.
